Frequently Asked Questions

Every Sushi Sushi food item sold in Australia is now made without artificial colours or flavourings. This page answers questions about what has changed, why we made the move, and what you might notice in a small number of products.

Our recipes still deliver the fresh flavours you know and love, with the same strict standards for quality, freshness and food safety, with simpler ingredients across our entire prepared food range.

Does this mean your food wasn't healthy before?

No, Sushi Sushi has always met Australian food safety and regulatory standards, and we're proud to be one of Australia’s leading fresh food-to go-brands.

Over the past two years, we've been gradually reformulating our food products and our recipes so that every food item is now made without artificial colours or flavourings. This isn’t about fixing a problem – it’s about continually improving our food and raising our own standards.

What are artificial colours and flavourings?

They're manufactured colours and flavourings used to enhance or standardise the appearance and taste of food products. At Sushi Sushi, we've chosen to remove them from our full food range because we believe simpler ingredients better reflect our commitment to serving fresh high-quality food.

Why are some products looking or tasting slightly different?

A small number of products – including our seaweed salad and tobiko – may taste and look slightly different after the removal of artificial flavours and colours. That’s a natural result of using ingredients in a more natural form, and we think it's a positive change worth making that supports the quality of our food.

Which products have changed?

Every Sushi Sushi food product sold in Australia is now free from artificial colours and flavourings. Some products required recipe changes to achieve this, while others already met the standard.

Why is Sushi Sushi doing this now?

This has been nearly two years in the making.

We're proud to be the first Australian Asian food retailer to make this commitment and remove artificial colours and flavourings across our entire food range. It's an important milestone that reflects our Real Food. Ready to Go. philosophy and our ongoing commitment to continually improving what we serve.

What about drinks? Are they included?

Our ‘free from artificial colours or flavours’ commitment currently only applies to our freshly prepared food range. Drinks are not included as part of this initiative.

Have you changed the taste of your food?

The recipes remain true to the flavours our customers know and enjoy. A small number of products may have subtle differences in taste or appearance because we've removed artificial colours and flavourings, but the overall eating experience remains the same.

Does this affect the freshness or shelf life of your food?

No. Our food continues to be prepared and handled under the same strict food safety and quality standards.

Does this mean your food is now healthier?

Removing artificial colours and flavourings is just one part of our ongoing commitment to quality ingredients. Customers should continue to refer to our nutritional information and ingredient lists when making food choices that suit their individual dietary needs.
